El Debarge along with life coach Tim Storey talks with Steve Harvey about the self perseverance it takes to overcome the struggles from years of drug addiction. El and Steve share their stories of past mistakes and the lessons learned to get back to a life without negative influences that hindered their success.
El is very forthcoming about his addictions and family life growing up and how he got started because of a choice that he made that nearly destroyed his life and his will power. Looking back he regrets not being their to raise his children and letting the industry shape his views on his success. Could he be a mega star in an environment that had only their own interest at the forefront and his an after thought.
When El first arrived back on the scene in early 2010, he had the driving force of good management, the industry's leading songwriters, and above all, will power. After all, if you don't believe in self, the struggles to succeed in the music industry will quickly hand you a ticket to retirement. Things were off to a positive start, but then, things went wrong suddenly. Familiarity and associations with the past enticed him back into an addictive cycle only to recycle the demons he fought so long and maybe not hard enough to rid himself of. The same people came around with drugs and behaviors that obviously influenced him and indicated that they had no interest in helping in his recovery. His fans were disappointed, but yet many there were willing to support him in the recovery process, and there were those who gave up on his journey. As his life became the ridicule for music gossip by those who sat behind mics and criticized his stumbles, and by those who took to blogs to verbalize hatred at his family, El Debarge still had a determination to believe and trust his Lord to make the changes in his life.
Now, it's going to take minute to digest all of the public ridicule. The sideline is saturated with onlookers who relish in his failures and those who offer false hope that they can change their misfortune into fortune only to go sour in the end. BUT, God has the right people to send in his life to bless and they will give not to take advantage and feed off of their desperate need to recover. Time will reveal what the plans of God for life and it evident that the story is not over. With knew projects to include a book about his life, new music to drop by the end of the summer 2017 and increased demand for his talents on stage, El Debarge has said before that "this time I'm gonna win!"
El Debarge episode on the Steve Harvey Show will tell his critics a lot about his strong willed nature to persevere. So, tune on June 7th and come back here to blog about your reactions.
